Now is the time to start the process of registering for the 2008 Presidential election. U.S. citizens residing abroad have the right to vote in U.S. Federal elections by absentee ballot. Deadlines for registering for the Presidential Preference Primary are fast approaching (the earliest being Washington D.C. with a deadline of 10 December 2007). Please go to the above links for more information.
Registering to vote is a quick and simple process using the http://www.fvap.gov website. Two very useful sections of this website are the State by State Instructions and Frequently Asked Questions. After reviewing your state instructions, you can simply go to the On-Line Registration and Absentee Ballot Request Form (located on the home page). Many states now allow overseas voters to fax in their registration and absentee ballot requests. Some states will fax out blank ballots to overseas voters, and a smaller number of states allow overseas voters to fax back the voted ballot. A few states allow use of e-mail. Make sure you pay close attention to these things as you review the State by State Instructions.
We also encourage you to contact Democrats Abroad, Republicans Abroad or other American citizens groups or organizations for party-specific voter information. You can find them through http://www.fvap.gov/reference/links/index.html .
