Admiral Stavridis Receives Order of the Cross of the Eagle from Estonia

Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves presented Admiral James Stavridis, NATO's supreme allied commander in Europe, the first class Order of the Cross of the Eagle for his important role in developing NATO's defense plan for the Baltic countries and Poland. Ilves said the award “represents our utmost recognition for your work for both our country and for ensuring a vigorous defense for our democratic alliance.

”The Order of the Cross of the Eagle was instituted in 1928 by the Estonian Defense League to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Estonian independence and is bestowed in recognition of military services and services in the field of national defense. AdmiralStavridis received the award during what is likely his last visit to Estonia before his retirement.
