Soap Box Derby

Soap Box Derby Downhill track races in self-made carts which can be called engineless micro automobiles have been held in the USA since the 1930s. They are called Soap Box Derbies. Today these competitions are held in many European countries as well and are colorful events of sport, imagination, and creativity.

The NGO Center of Creative Development and Leisure 'Gagarin' in Narva is organizing a Soap Box Derby on June 9, 2007 in Lipovaja Jamka (Lime Tree Pit) during the City Days of Narva. The location of the race is unique: a view of both Narva and Ivangorod (Russian town across the river) Castles opens from the Lime Tree Pit.

Narva has long standing traditions of engineering creativity, design, and well-developed sports clubs and clubs of technical design. The 'Gagarin' Center offers support and development possibilities to such traditions. Because of its popularity in the USA, the center is planning on making the Derby an annual tradition.

The 'Gagarin' center is pleased to invite everybody who is interested in sports, engineering, holidays, and having a good time to take part in the race. We are expecting participation of family teams, teams of friends, car workshops teams, and engineering clubs teams from all over Estonia.
