U.S. Embassy - Disappointed at Reaction to NRG Offer

The United States Government is disappointed by the Estonian Government's recent reaction to the offer from NRG Energy to resume the privatization plan for the Narva electric power plants. This arrangement would have produced significant benefits for the Estonian public and for communities in northeastern Estonia. The U.S. Embassy only learned of the Prime Minister's reply after it was released to the press. We do not believe it appropriate to comment specifically on the text of the Prime Minister's letter because it was addressed to a private party.
