Non-Immigrant Visas
Application Procedures
The U.S. Embassy in Tallinn welcomes non-immigrant visa applications on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, by appointment only. Applicants must come in person, (except as described below for certain children) with all forms and documents, as described below.
1. Complete, print and sign the non-immigrant visa application form(s).
2. Attach a correctly formatted photo.
3. Schedule a visa interview appointment
using our on-line appointment system.
4. Pay the application fee of 1376 EEK, and be prepared to present a printed receipt for your payment at the time of your interview. (This amount is the Estonian equivalent of the standard worldwide visa application fee, and may be adjusted from time to time based on currency fluctuations, so please check this website before making your payment to ensure that you are paying the correct amount.)
5. Student, Exchange and Work visa applicants must present other documents specifically required for those visa types.
NB! - If you are applying for an exchange visa or a work visa, you must read the Nonimmigrant Rights, Protections and Resources pamphlet prior to your visa interview.
6. At the time of your interview, present a valid passport
that matches the information included in your visa application form, along with all other items listed above.
7. At the time of the interview, you will be requested to provide your fingerprints
electronically. The consul will ask you a number of questions in order to determine what type of visa would be appropriate for your proposed trip, and whether you meet the legal requirements under U.S. law to receive that visa. Each applicant (except for certain work visas) should be prepared to prove his/her strong social, economic and/or family ties to Estonia (or another country to which the applicant intends to return), and also the applicant's purpose of travel to the United States. In this regard, applicants are welcome to bring additional documentation to the interview, which may or may not be reviewed by the consul.
Children under age 14 are not subject to fingerprinting requirements, and hence need not come in person. Rather, a child's parent or guardian must come for the interview instead of the child. All other requirements are the same (completed application form for the child, photo of the child, fee payment, etc.).
At the time and date of your interview, please come to the U.S. Embassy at Kentmanni 20 in Tallinn, with all of the items listed above. The Embassy guards will escort you to the Embassy's Consular Section for your interview. Please note that all visitors to the Embassy building are subject to a security screening by Embassy guards (similar to the screening of travelers at an international airport). Some items, such as cameras and mobile phones, are not permitted in the building, but rather must be left at the guard station.
If you have any additional questions, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.
If after reading those questions, you still have a specific question about how to apply for a non-immigrant visa at the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn, please contact us.
Visa Processing Fee: For the month of November 2009, the USD 131 visa processing fee is 1376 EEK.
