U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Philip Gordon Visits Estonia
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Philip Gordon visited Tallinn on August 13. In the course of his visit, Dr. Gordon met with Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues and participated together with Foreign Minister Paet in a joint press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Gordon's visit to Estonia follows his visits to Latvia and Lithuania on August 12. He will continue on to Belarus, where he will have meetings on August 14.
This was Dr. Gordon's first visit to Estonia. He took office as Assistant Secretary on May 15, 2009. Before coming to the State Department, he was a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he focused on European and U.S. foreign policy issues. Prior to his time at Brookings, Dr. Gordon served as Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council under President Bill Clinton.
