2008 Presidential Preference Primary Election Dates and Registration Deadlines

Now is the time to start preparing for the 2008 Presidential election. Absentee voter registration deadlines are approaching; please see following link for a state-by-state list of primary election and voter registration deadline dates:

http://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/VoterServices/2008PresidentialPrimaryDatesandDealines/tabid/115/Default.aspx

Dates are subject to change.
The 2008 Presidential Preference Primary Dates and associated voter registration deadlines for overseas citizens and military voters can be subject to change and waiver. Please keep checking the Federal Voting Assistance website for any changes at: http://www.fvap.gov .

Re-filing your form.
Send your election official a new form for every election as it serves to confirm your overseas mailing address. Never assume that you will get your ballot without re-filing for each election. Avoid surprises.

"Register to Vote", "Request a Ballot" or "Change Address"
The procedure for already registered voters to "request a ballot" is the same as registering to vote. It is also the same form and process for changing your overseas address. You must fill out the same form according to your state-specific requirements. The risk in late filing is that your ballot will not arrive in time.

How to find your election official
The following link provides access to web sites for directors of elections and state voting web sites: http://www.fvap.gov/reference/links/index.html

Leave time for registration processing.
You should leave a 4-6 week buffer for the election office to turn around your registration/ballot request. Try to send in your forms early and at least 45 days in advance of the election regardless of what your state requires. Note that your registration/ballot request for your state's 2008 Presidential Preference Primary Election will remain valid for your receipt of a ballot for the General Election Primaries and the November 2008 General Election as well.
