“Black on the Silver Screen” Celebrates Black History Month

On February 27, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Karen Decker opening the 4th American Classic Films Festival. The festival is organized by the U.S. Government Programs Alumni Organization in Estonia to promote American culture and tolerance.   This years' festival theme focused on African Americans. In addition to opening the festival, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Decker gave remarks about the festival's opening film, Spike Lee's “Do the Right Thing.” The festival featured six culturally significant films with screenings in both Tallinn as well as in university town Tartu in southern Estonia.

On February 26, a reception at the Ambassador's residence opened the festival and Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Decker addressed the guests which included academic alumni, local partners and media.

A wide Estonian audience both in Tallinn and Tartu learn about African American history through a U.S. Government Program Alumni organized film festival.
