U.S. Embassy Team Planting Trees

On April 30, an 18-member team from the U.S. Embassy, headed by Chargé d’ Affaires Karen Decker, joined a team comprised of members from the weekly rural newspaper “Maaleht,” as well as from the Estonian State-owned forestry company “RMK,” to plant trees in an Estonian state-owned forest.

Altogether, 2,800 trees were planted during the day. Consistent with Estonian custom, the planting of a tree fulfills the Estonian tradition and expectation that a person should carry out good deeds during their lifetime.

With the U.S. Embassy community joining Estonians to spend a full day, working together to make Estonia a more beautiful place, the message was underscored that the broader Embassy community, including officers, local staff and family members, care deeply about Estonian nature and the people living here.
