Charles H. Albrecht

Charles Hahn Albrecht was born on February 22, 1886 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1905, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During 1906, he worked in the auditor's office of a railroad company. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1908 and practiced law for three years while continuing his studies. In 1911, he also received a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Albrecht joined the U.S. Consular Service on July 12, 1911. On February 21, 1912, he became both the Vice Consul and the Deputy Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Barcelona, Spain. A year later, he returned to Washington, D.C. where he was appointed Vice Consul to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on October 28, 1913. From January to February 1915, he served on a short detail in Washington, D.C. before returning to the Dominican Republic. On July 12, 1916, the U.S. Department of State promoted Albrecht to U.S. Consul at Santo Domingo, where he would serve for another five years.

On June 29, 1920, Albrecht became the U.S. Consul in Tallinn, Estonia. During his tenure, the U.S. Government established official relations with the Republic of Estonia. In late 1922, he transferred to Germany to serve as the U.S. Consul at Danzig. Albrecht served only six months in Danzig before he was appointed to be the U.S. Consul in Bangkok on May 3, 1923. After three years in Thailand, he received his final assignment on June 24, 1926, as the U.S. Consul in Nairobi, Kenya. He died at post in Kenya of a gastric disorder on August 7, 1929.
